Cage home and Bamboo
The shelter is inspired by cage home in Hong Kong. The residents are low-income people, including the elderly, drug addicts, and low-skilled or unskilled laborers. Bamboo scaffolding in Hong Kong is common because the bamboo is strong and easy to construct. Therefore, we chose bamboo as the shelter material.
Design Concept
To rethink the concept of cage home, we thought that people who are living in cage home can have their own mobile shelter, but not trapped in a tiny space. Our cage inn can be stacked three bed or single bed. It can be sitted as a chair for three people at the same time.
We used interlock as the connection of bamboo by inserting a smaller piece bamboo into the bigger piece of bamboo. It is efficient and can be take away by pulling up the bed.
