Chung King Mansions
Chung King Mansions is a hybrid building with restaurants, retailing, guesthouses, etc. The five blocks A,B,C,D and E are seperated and located on a three storey shopping mall base. The gap of those five blocks become abandoned. It is because the gap is dark and not access-friendly. Therefore, my project is focused on bringing the natural light into the gap and the rethinking the possibilities of the gap.
The new circulation idea in Chung King Mansions. From the gap to the blocks.
The new plan showing the bridges connected and the form of the canopy.
The Extension Project of Armilla
Chung King Mansions have a lot of guesthouses in different floors and blocks. Those tourist who would like to have a room here, should go to different guesthouses and find a suit guesthouse. Therefore, I have designed a hotel lobby in the gap of Chung King Mansion in order to gather all the tourist and the manager of guesthouses here to provide check in and check out process.
Canopy · Bridges
In order to link up different space in Chung King Mansions and give convenience to tourists and residents, there is two main area in my design project: the bridge and the canopy. The canopy is transformed from the unused water pipes and supported by the bridges.
The triangular canopy is made of wire mesh and mirror. Wire mesh is able to allowing the natural light pass through, mirror can reflect the natural light to other blocks and enhance the lighting quality of the rooms.
The bridges can enhance the accessibility between blocks. The users can cross to another blocks for lunch or shopping without going down to ground floor. Besides, it is also a supporting of the triangular canopy.
